Thanks to its strategic location, guests can soak up the local cultures the moment they step out of the lobby. Dorsett Mongkok’s surrounding is like a little food galore where a bevy of independent restaurants and popular cha chaan tengs serving local comfort food like congee and wonton noodles are found at every turn. Michelin-starred dim sum restaurant, Tim Ho Wan, is also only a stone’s throw away. These restaurants are mostly frequented by locals, hence the price is exceptionally reasonable. One can also find plenty of small shops selling all sorts of daily essentials and local snacks at a fraction of the cost – a rare sight in this city where retail rents are exorbitant.

Let the exploration on foot continue to some of the popular tourist destinations and night bazaars like Ladies Market, Temple Street Market and Fa Yuen Street – all within 15 minutes’ walk. Nifty clothes, trendy sportswear, sneakers, collectible trinkets and Dai Pai Dongs (hawker stalls) serving street food can be found everywhere in these markets, all sold at reasonable prices. Depending on one’s haggling skill, one may end up paying less than another one for the same quality of good at the same shop. This haggling tradition goes on from evening till dawn, seven days a week.

Cultural explorers may also find Cantonese opera singing, a traditional form of Hong Kong music; and fortune telling, where local people would line up waiting to be told of their fates, an intriguing sight to see at Temple Street Market.

If shopping at night bazaars aren’t quite enough, take the complimentary hotel shuttle bus that runs to several places daily to one of the many mega shopping malls nearby like Langham Place Mall and Elements, where travellers will be able to shop from a huge variety of international brands from all over the world.
